Every time I do an interview for Get Unstuck, Be Unstoppable, inevitably I am asked, “What’s the first step to getting unstuck?”  It’s simple. Tell the truth, I answer.  Until we admit what we really want, until we acknowledge what we already know in our spirit, until we stop pretending things are OK that truly aren’t, we’re stuck. And we usually remain stuck out of a fear that we don’t know what to do with the truth. You see, the truth might cause you to admit some things you don’t want to admit. That perfect life you present to the world may not look so perfect any more.  And you might be afraid that acknowledging the truth will cause your life to unravel. But what if it needs to be unraveled?

I’ve discovered that anything that can be “unraveled” but the truth needs to be unraveled – and my life on the other side of the unraveling is beautifully and wonderfully spun by the Almighty Himself.  Whether it is a job you can’t stand or debt you’re embarrassed to admit you racked up or a relationship whose early signs told you to go slow, but you didn’t, facing the truth is the first step to freedom. I don’t know where this message applies to you right now, but I can assure you of this: The truth will set you free.  You can deal with it now or you’ll have an even bigger mess to deal with later.

This week, perhaps my words are crossing your path because it is time to muster the courage and faith to tell yourself the truth. It is empowering to tell yourself the truth. In the moment that you embrace, you realize you have the wherewithal to handle it. Even more, you realize that when you break free from your fear, your future is unstoppable. Your real life begins with truth.

My challenge to you this week: Tell yourself the truth – about where you are, what you know and what you want. Refuse to let fear interfere.

Journaling assignment: Consider the five key areas of your life:  Relationships, finances, health, work and spiritual life. What truth do you need to admit?  In acknowledging the truth, what will you need to do?  By taking this action, what will you be free to do? Leave your comments below; I’d love to hear from you!
