Have you ever found yourself asking, “What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I get it right?”

We’ve all been there from time to time. That’s why my book Successful Women Think Differently addresses that very issue.

I’m excited to be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Successful Women Think Differently with a series about the nine habits that make you happier, healthier, and more resilient.

Today I’m sharing Habit #3: Stop trying to fix your weaknesses. Stop obsessing about what’s wrong with you, and start building on what is right.

It’s easy to focus on our flaws. In fact, your brain is wired to notice what’s wrong. The danger is when you’re constantly analyzing your faults, you end up overlooking your strengths.

The next time your mind gets loud with self-criticism, ask yourself, “How can I use my strengths to overcome the challenges I’m facing? How can I seize the opportunities that are right in front of me?”

You can’t be great at everything. And guess what? You don’t need to be.

What you do need to do is to notice the gifts you have because that is probably the thing you most take for granted. If you tap into that thing, it might just become your secret weapon.

If you don’t know your strengths, here’s what to do:

  • Ask the people around you.
  • Take a strength assessment online.
  • Note the things you do naturally that other people seem to have a much harder time doing.

This week, I want you to start asking, “How can I use my strengths to win?”

Coach Yourself

What areas of your life do you tend to beat yourself up?

What weaknesses do you find yourself dwelling on?

What is something that comes naturally to you that is more difficult for others?

How can you use your strength to overcome obstacles and win?
