About the Book
Our culture makes it so that even the most organized and efficient among us feels the pressure of the ticking clock and the possibility and regret of missing out. Modern life has evolved in a way that sets us up for stress, pressure, and overload. New norms and attitudes tap into deeply-wired psychological impulses that make it harder than ever to take control of your time. Many of us also have innate personality traits that make the struggle even worse.

No wonder time can become a tyrant that leaves us chronically stressed and discontented.

It's About Time: the art of choosing the meaningful over the urgent, unlocks an approach to life that I call “living timelessly.” You will come to understand:
  •  the gradual changes that have led us to a place where having too much to do and too little time to do it is the norm,
  •  the vision for what it could be like if you were free from the stress of time and how to blast through the obstacles to those possibilities, and
  •  the practical steps to choosing the meaningful over the urgent so that your life is unhurried yet purposeful and reflects the values and impact that are unique to you.
~ Intentionally choose the meaningful over the urgent every single day. ~

Impacted Readers
Like many women who are constantly bombarded with an overwhelming amount of daily demands, I am always looking for ways to extend the limitations on my time. But now, I have a totally different perspective. In this book, Valorie Burton uses her deep wisdom and expertise to provide an alternative way of looking at and successfully addressing our over extension challenges. This book is a must read for everyone, but especially for busy women on the go! Valorie equips us with the tools necessary to release our time from the grasp of the urgent so that we can live the meaningful and joyful lives we were meant to live.

- Pat Smith, author of Second Chances, Co-Founder, Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities, Minister, CEO, Pat Smith Enterprises, wife and mother of 5 children
Kristin and I have always believed that time is one of the most precious gifts that God gives us. It's limited; and although we can gain and lose finances, resources and relationships, time is something we never get back. Too often, we are spending time on things that don't matter rather than investing time in the things that do matter. Thankfully, God can redeem lost time. Our friend Valorie shares how to place greater value on our time, how to shift from what seems normal to what feels natural, and ultimately how to appreciate taking pauses in our life to focus on what's truly meaningful. Reading this book and doing what it says is time well invested!

- Montell and Kristin Jordan, authors of "This Is How We Do It! Making Your Marriage A Masterpeace"
I'm going to read [the book and the devotional] again with more friends this time. One of the tips that I've implemented in my life is the six-core vulnerabilities. I fall into the over-responsibility and approval addiction categories. I've been so much more aware of how they show up in my life since reading the book. So now I just say a few words to myself when they creep up. For instance, if I see myself taking ownership of someone else's responsibilities, I'll remind myself, "Hey, let them do it themselves, allow them to grow." It's been very helpful!

Meet Valorie Burton
What I Do:
I am the author of twelve books on personal development, founder of The Coaching and Positive Psychology (CaPP) Institute and an international speaker on resilience and happiness. I have spent more than 15 years studying the research of resilience, positive emotion and courage – and implementing it in my own life and with hundreds of clients from a dozen countries and nearly every state in the US. My books include Successful Women Think Differently, What’s Really Holding You Back?, Brave Enough to Succeed, and Happy Women Live Better.
What I Believe:
Modern life has evolved in a way that sets us up for stress, pressure, and overload. New norms and attitudes tap into deeply wired psychological impulses that make it harder than ever to take control of our time. No wonder time can become a tyrant that leaves you chronically stressed and discontented. It would be enough if the ultimate consequences were only stress and discontentment. But those are just symptoms. Instead, it’s the prospect of living a life in which you spend your time doing the things that seem important, only to look back and realize you missed out on the things that actually are.

The journey to a life in which I am happily married, have the privilege of being a mom and a bonus mom, do work I truly love, and have strong friendships to cherish took many years. As it finally came together, I awakened to the reality that time and happiness are intricately interconnected. Margin empowers happiness. It is breathing room—the soft cushion between your schedule and your limits. I believe we can all benefit from reimagining the possibilities for living a life that is meaningful, at a pace that is natural, with a load that is doable.
